Chateau Sopot stands as one of Macedonia’s most picturesque boutique
wineries, gracefully nestled between the Vardar River Valley and Lake
Mladost in the heart of the Veles wine district. Conveniently located
along the A1/E75 Skopje-Veles highway within the Vardar River Valley
Wine Region, it offers not only breathtaking views but also a profound
sense of terroir and authenticity.
The winery’s focus is on limited production, high-quality wines,
especially from Vranec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Their oak-aged Vranec
Reserve is robust and complex, but it was their crisp, minerally Rhine
Riesling that truly surprised me.
Wine tourism here is refreshingly unpolished — warm, personal, and set
against the backdrop of nature. Visitors can enjoy a relaxed tasting on
the terrace, paired with local cheeses, meat, and homemade bread. It’s
intimate and authentic — a place where the wine speaks for itself.
